Fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the West should be thrilled to hear that VIZ Media is set to translate and release an official manga adaption of the game in English.
Nintendo’s charming life simulator rocked the gaming world last year as it smashed numerous sales records. The Animal Crossing series is one of a few wholesome video game franchises that appeals to both the young and old (heck, even retirement homes can’t get enough of it).
As is tradition, Japan already got the Animal Crossing manga last year, just as Japan got the Animal Crossing animated film and other manga adaptations in the past.
The original Animal Crossing on the Nintendo GameCube, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf all received manga adaptations in Japan at the time of their release. While Animal Crossing: Wild World was the subject of the previously mentioned animated movie in 2006.
Many Western fans assumed this manga adaptation, like past ones, wouldn’t be released outside of Japan. But to everyone’s pleasant surprise, New Horizons is making history by coming to Western shores this year.
This latest manga adaptation is called Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Deserted Island Diary, and its first volume is slated for release in Fall 2021. It was originally published in CoroCoro Comic, a popular Japanese magazine. Deserted Island Diary series follows the premise of the game it’s based upon, so expect a human to move to a deserted island with several anthropomorphic animals as they work together to turn it into a vibrant community and veritable hot spot for tourists.
VIZ has actually been on a roll with Nintendo properties as of late. The publisher has already released an English Super Mario manga, and recently announced it is localizing a Kirby manga as well.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Deserted Island Diary is scheduled to hit a bookstore near you on September 14th.
