Vmax cards have arrived!

Just when you thought Pokémon TCG couldn’t get any crazier after Tag Team GX cards, the popular card game is now introducing VMax cards in the upcoming Pokémon TCG Sword and Shield expansion.

While the game might still steer toward Tag Team GX cards until their eventual demise at the hands of the yearly set rotation, With their high HP levels and strong attacks, VMax cards could replace Tag Team GX as the real heavyweights of the game.

Behold, Snorlax VMax!

VMax cards are basically Gigantamax Pokémon from the Sword and Shield video games. They can be equipped to any V Pokémon of the same type. For example, A VMax Snorlax can attach itself to a V Snorlax card. It’s a similar mechanic to the Level X cards in the Diamond and Pearl era.

However, despite the advantage of their powerful attacks, using VMax cards does come with some risks. Just like Tag Team GX cards, if they’re defeated in battle, your opponent can take three Prize Cards.

Lapras also gets the VMax treatment in Pokémon TCG.

So you might want to stick with V cards, which are already powerful in their own right. Still, there’s no denying the strategy involved with throwing down a VMax card in the heat of battle, let alone the sheer satisfaction of playing with one. You can get your hands on all of when they’re released in February 2020.

Besides the V and VMax mechanic, aesthetic changes are coming to the popular card game as well.
