The Pokémon franchise has been making a lot of bold moves recently. With the release of its first official live-action film Detective Pikachu, a recent announcement of new Nintendo Switch DLC, a new anime mini-series, and major changes to the trading card game, there’s no shortage of Pokémon-related news.
That didn’t stop heads from turning last year when it was announced that a CGI remake of the first Pokémon movie called Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution.
Many fans were shocked to see popular characters like Ash Ketchum, gym leader Misty, and Pikachu rendered in an alternate cartoony 3D universe. While remakes aren’t anything new and traditional animation is being replaced by CGI more and more frequently, there’s no denying that the 3D models used in Evolution looked uniquely bizarre at first.
But like many things, we’ve pretty much gotten used to the new designs now. And we won’t have to wait long to watch the movie as Netflix recently nabbed the streaming rights to it and has scheduled its worldwide release for Pokémon Day on February 27th, 2020.
That’s right, you’ll get to see Pikachu fighting its clone in glorious 3D soon enough. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer which has been dubbed in English below:
