President Donald Trump expressed strong interest in having podcaster/comedian/fight commentator Joe Rogan moderating a lengthy 4-hour debate between him and candidate Joe Biden.
Former UFC fighter Tim Kennedy tweeted “On my podcast with @joerogan he offered to moderate a debate between @JoeBiden and @realDonaldTrump It would be four hours with no live audience. Just the two candidates, cameras, and their vision of how to move this country forward. Who wants this? #debates #Election2020”
Surprisingly, Trump personally responded to the tweet, with an enthusiastic “I do!”, signaling agreement with having Rogan host an actual presidential debate.
This comes on the heels of Trump recently tweeting out a clip from Joe Rogan’s podcast where the comedian joked that “Biden to me is like having a flashlight with a dying battery and going for a long hike in the woods”.
However, Rogan is seen as a left-leaning moderate, and in that same podcast he joked with his guest that Trump might have addiction issues.
Still, it’s unlikely that the Biden campaign would agree to a 4-hour long debate, let alone one moderated by Joe Rogan.
Prominent Democrats such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have publicly suggested that Biden should not debate Trump under any circumstances, stating “I wouldn’t legitimize a conversation with him”.
Not only that, but the presidential debates have already been scheduled to be moderated by Chris Wallace, Steve Scully and Kristen Welker, respectively.
Nonetheless, Trump does have a point. Joe Rogan’s podcast is by far the largest in the world and it would be a great way to bring the debates into the modern era in a setting that would really allow the audience to get a good look at each prospective candidate.
