Louisiana police were shocked when they got a call from a local gas station involving an incident with a 5-pound chihuahua in an SUV.

While its owner was at the fuel pumps, the chihuahua knocked into the vehicle’s gear stick, sending the vehicle into reverse. Realizing the nightmare that was about to unfold, the dog’s owner immediately chased after the vehicle and tried to pry its driver’s side door open, but to no avail. She dramatically vehicle fell to the ground as the SUV hurdled into a busy intersection.

Police determined the dog was able to pull off this feat due to a mechanical issue that allowed the transmission to be engaged without any pressure on the brakes.

“It is a miracle that no one was seriously injured and that no other vehicles were struck during this incident,” police said. “Let this be a lesson to everyone to please use caution when leaving pets inside of your vehicle.”

The police posted security camera video from the Gause Boulevard gas station showing the bizarre event as it happened.
